Technology & Product Leader | Answering Critical Business Questions with Enterprise Data | EdTech

Works with organizations and their domain experts to model how critical business questions can be answered using their existing data infrastructure, make answerability visible, and prioritize data improvement needs based on business priorities.

Can Gökçay is a technology leader and consultant with more than 25 years of experience in technology and EdTech. Throughout his career, he has worked as a CTO, technical product manager, and project manager, leading the development of more than 50 national and international products and projects.

Today, his consulting work focuses on modeling how organizations can answer critical business questions using their existing data infrastructure.

The same business question may be asked across different organizations, but how that question is answered is specific to each organization. Data structures, processes, systems, business concepts, calculation methods, and business rules all shape the path to an answer.

Can works with an organization’s domain experts to model how each selected critical business question should be answered. He breaks the business question down into the required data questions, maps those questions to data fields in existing systems, and defines the necessary relationships, calculations, methods, and business rules. This creates an organization-specific answer model for each critical business question.

The work also makes visible which questions can be answered with the organization’s existing data infrastructure and which cannot, along with the reasons why. Missing data, relationships, metrics, or definitions are linked back to critical business questions, enabling data improvement needs to be prioritized according to business priorities.

The modeling method developed during the engagement is also transferred to the organization and can be applied to different business questions within the organization.

This approach forms the basis of Can’s “Consulting That Leaves a Trace” philosophy. When an engagement is completed, the organization retains not only a report, but also usable and evolvable answer models and a method for creating new ones.

With more than 25 years of experience in EdTech, Can also works in enterprise learning technologies and measuring the operational impact of training. His work includes designing sustainable, standards-based learning infrastructures, connecting learning data with other enterprise systems, and measuring the impact of training investments on workplace behavior and operational outcomes. His experience includes learning technology standards such as SCORM, xAPI, and cmi5.

Drawing on his technology and product management background, Can also works in productization and Fractional CTO/CPO engagements. He supports project- and service-based companies in turning recurring solutions into scalable products, defining common product cores, building product roadmaps and teams, and developing pricing and packaging approaches.

He also mentors early-stage technology startups on product development, customer validation, enterprise sales and pilot design, go-to-market strategy, and investment readiness.
